Viktor Tischler was born in Vienna in 1890 and is an outstanding Austrian artist of the interwar years. Influenced by Paul Cezanne in his manner of painting he spent many years of his artistic life in France. In 1941 he temporarily emigrated to the United States. His versatile work includes portraits, still lifes and landscapes – many of them embracing his Austrian origins as well as his later adopted homes – the Mediterranean area and the United States. Today Tischler’s paintings are shown in various Austrian and international museums.
