Moritz Ulffers was a German painter, draftsman and lithographer.
Moritz Ulffers, born in Hamburg in 1819, studied from 1847 to 1852 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Wilhelm von Schadow. Like many of his fellow students under von Schadow, he initially dealt with religious motifs in history painting. He later painted genre scenes and soon devoted himself particularly to lithography, which, apart from wood engraving and copperplate engraving, was the only way to reproduce paintings before photography was invented.
