Philippe Swyncop

Philippe Swyncop, born in Brussels in 1878 and died in Saint-Gilles in 1949, was a Belgian painter, draughtsman, graphic artist and illustrator.

He was trained at the Brussels Academy (1892-1898) with Jean-François Portaels and Constant Montald.

Philippe Swyncop took part in a group show at the Maison d'Art Moderne in Brussels in 1920 with Jean Colin, Charles Swyncop, Arthur Navez, Samuel Milbauer, L. Bisschops, Jean-Jacques Gailliard and J. Payro.

He also participated in a group show at Galerie Boigelot in Brussels in 1921 with Eugène Plasky, Alfred Bastien, Charles Houben, Jean Gouweloos, Charles Crespin and Léon Spilliaert.

In December 1923, he took part in an exhibition at the Salle Mommen in Brussels, with Alfred Bastien and Fernand Allard l'Olivier.
Before 1924, he painted almost exclusively portraits. He was also a good caricaturist.

He was Charles Swyncop's older brother.
