Leo Klein von Diepold was born in Dortmund in 1865. Leo Klein of Diepold grew up in an artistically talented family. His father, a history and portrait painter, determined the path, which two of his siblings, Julian and Maximilian, also followed as a painter.
Leo studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf, as well as at the Academy in Antwerp. He was the temporarily active in Paris and Berlin and established himself in the Dutch city of Noordwijk aan Zee, where he lived between 1907 and 1921.
Since 1901, Leo was represented at numerous important art exhibitions, including the Berlin Secession. It is therefore not surprising that Leo Klein of Diepold spent his last years in the German capital. Diepold died in 1944.
