Around 1904, he worked in a paper factory near Roda in Saxony-Altenburg, then from 1922 became an artistic collaborator and heraldic advisor to the Bavarian Heraldic College in Munich.

He produced nearly 350 bookplates and designs for official and family coats of arms.

He was also secretary of the Berlin Society for Sigillography and Heraldry. He wrote articles on heraldry for the genealogy and heraldry magazine Roland.
