About the Artist

Horace Devitt Welsh was a student of William Merritt Chase, Thomas Anschutz, and Joseph Pennell. He does not appear to have been especially well known, and there are few auction records, but he did exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy and other venues like the Philadelphia Sketch Club. He was an easel painter as well as an active graphic artist. Subject matter of his art has included Pennsylvania, New Orleans and the South, and Cuba.
