Charles Scolik was an Austrian photographer.
Scolik trained as a photographer from 1867. In 1876 he took over the Viennese Atelier F. Kohler, which he continued under the name Atelier Amelie. However, he soon gave up this first self-employed activity to work as an employee of the photographer Carl Kroh. In 1886 he became independent again and ran a photochemical laboratory at the same time as Friedrich Mallmann. In the years that followed he developed into one of the leading portrait photographers in Vienna. From the early 1890s, Scolik was one of the first Austrian photographers to photograph public events and publish his photographs in the press. In 1887 he supported the founding of the "Club of Amateur Photographers in Vienna" and taught there from 1891.
In 1892 Scolik was appointed court photographer. He was editor and publisher of the Photographische Rundschau for several years. He was a member of the photographic associations of Vienna, Frankfurt and Berlin . He has received numerous awards for his work.
