
Hermann Behrens was born in Bremen, Germany on July 10, 1865. By 1884 Behrens had moved to San Francisco where he worked as a clerk until 1891. In that year he returned to Germany and entered the Berlin Academy of Arts. Soon thereafter he established a studio in Vienna. Although rare, his few extant paintings are mostly genre in the realistic style of the 19th century German School.
