Adolf Ditscheiner was born in Vienna in 1846. From 1866 to 1873 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts and was a pupil of Albert Zimmermann. He continued his studies on travels through the Bavarian mountains and Northern Italy as well as during a stay in Istria and on the Adriatic Sea.
Ditscheiner's oeuvre includes mainly landscapes, finding his motifs around Vienna, Salzburg and in Upper Austria. The painter received awards at the universal exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and in Chicago in 1893. In 1899 he was honored with a State Medal. He died in 1904.
