
Gijsbertus Johannes van Overbeek was a Dutch illustrator, painter, draftsman, and book designer. He worked in Hillegersberg until 1947.
He studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. He painted harbor scenes, landscapes, and cityscapes, but he was best known for his dozens of works depicting working horses, such as a horse or horses pulling a cart.
He also worked as an illustrator and book cover designer for various publishers, including Nederlands Boekhuis and J.M. J.M. Bredée. He also created illustrations for the children's monthly magazine Ons Thuis by Henriëtte Dietz and Katharina Leopold.
Van Overbeek was a member of the artists' association De Onafhankelijken in Amsterdam.
