
Nicolas Zéphirin Joseph Gengembre was a French painter, watercolorist, and lithographer of Belgian origin.
A student of Alexandre Couder, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1839 to 1870.
His main subjects were portraits, historical scenes, and animals, particularly horses. His paintings are part of the collections of various museums: Equestrian Portrait of Napoleon I at the Pontoise Museum, Horses Resting in the Stable at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
