Edouard Alexander Hilverdink was one of the best 19th century Dutch painters and draughtsmen. Edouard was born in Amsterdam in 1846 as the son and later the pupil of another highly respected Dutch artist, Johannes Hilverdink.
Johannes (1813-1902) outlived his son by 11 years and was a Member of the Academy of Amsterdam. He studied with two top Dutch artists, A. J. Daiwaille and Jan-Willem Pieneman. A number of his works can be found today in Amsterdam in the Museum de l'Etat and the City Museum.
The younger Hilverdink was highly distinguished for his landscapes and urban scenes, and many of his works are in numerous Dutch galleries and museums, including the permanent collection of the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam. Edouard's works are highly sought after by many top European and American collectors.
