Born in Madrid in the middle of the century, Eduardo Flórez Ibáñez is recorded as winning the medal third-class awarded in 1871 by the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, but before that he served an apprenticeship at the Higher School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving and was a pupil of Carlos de Haes.
