Albijn Van den Abeele was a Flemish writer and painter of the Latem school.
Van den Abeele was initially a writer of village novels. He did not begin painting until the age of 40. In his first works, black and brown tonalities dominate. Starting in 1890, he began his series of forest scenes, in which new and refined hues emerge.
Van den Abeele became a city councilor in 1863 and alderman in 1867, as well as mayor of Sint-Martens-Latem from 1869 to 1876. Afterwards, he became town clerk of both Latem and Afsnee.
