Max Kahrer was an Austrian painter.
He studied at the Vienna Academy and then worked in Klosterneuburg. There he founded the artists' association “Association of Local Artists in Klosterneuburg” in 1906, which he temporarily chaired. At the association's first exhibition in 1908, Kahrer was represented with 22 pictures. Egon Schiele was among the visitors.

The art historian Arthur Roessler wrote about him in 1928: “Among the painters currently working in Klosterneuburg, Max Kahrer is undoubtedly the most artistically significant personality.” From 1905 to 1907 he was a member of the Hagenbund. In 1908 he opened a painting school, which he had to close again after two years. His greatest sponsor was the art dealer Heinrich Neumann.
