Wilhelm Amandus Beer was a German artist. After a training in figurative painting with Jacob Becker and in history and fresco painting with Edward von Steinle at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt, Wilhelm Amandus Beer became a member of the Kronberg painter colony. He made several trips to Russia and painted numerous scenes of the country and the people. In addition to some multi-figured genre scenes, Beer is recorded for his finely painted portraits. Since 1897, he headed a master studio for painting at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt and was appointed professor in 1899.
