Fritz L' Allemand

Fritz L'Allemand was one of the best Austrian militarian, battle and horse painters of the 19th century. He was born in Hanau, Germany in 1812 and moved with his family in 1826 to Vienna, where he studied at the Academy from 1827. He took part in military campaigns in 1849 to Italy and 1864 to Schleswig-Holstein, bringing back sketches and drawings which served him in creating his oil paintings. He also received many comissions from the Austrian imperial house among others ceiling paintings for the Kaiser's residence Schoenbrunn. Works by him are displayed at the Austrian Gallery Belvedere and other major museums.
