Jean-Charles Contel, pseudonym of Jean-Charles Maurice Leconte, born May 5, 1895 in Glos and died September 4, 1928 (aged 33) in Paris, was a French painter and lithographer, close to the Rouen School.

Jean-Charles Contel appeared at the Salon des artistes normands in Paris in 1925, alongside Fernand Truffaut (1866-1965), Charles Léandre (1862-1930 or 34), and Raymond Bigot (1872-1953). He made a name for himself by depicting old houses, winding alleys and seedy neighborhoods. In 1926, he exhibited in Le Havre, then at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne, which organized a retrospective of his work in 1928. He also worked for Annales and L'Illustration, but died prematurely on September 4, 1928.
