François-Edme Ricois was a French painter born in Courtalain (Eure-et-Loir).
François-Edme Ricois was the son of Jacques Edme Ricois (1767-1850) and Françoise Angélique Souchay (1755-1854). Married to Marie Constance Denin, they had a daughter, Octavie Ricois (born in 1830) who was also a painter.
Ricois is the pupil of Jean-Victor Bertin, Anne-Louis Girodet and Constant Bourgeois.
He began his career at the Salon de peinture et de sculpture in 1819, where he exhibited numerous views of castles and landscapes in France and Switzerland until 1880.
