Gustave Maincent was a French genre and landscape painter painter born in Paris in 1850. A student of Pils and the painter Cabasson, Maincent showed at the Paris Salon beginning in the year 1868; most often showing views of Paris and scenes of Parisian daily life, the artist also painted scenes of rural domesticity. Maincent was awarded an honorable mention at the Salon of 1881 and later made a chevalier in the French Légion d’honneur, an honor of merit awarded great French citizens.
