Akamatsu Rinsaku was a painter, illustrator, cartoonist, and printmaker in Osaka. He was born in 1878 in Tsuyama City in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. He studied Western-style painting at the renowned Tokyo School of Fine Arts, with one of his teachers being Yamauchi Gusen. Akamatsu Rinsaku's first employment was as an illustrator for the newspaper Osaka Asahi Shimbun. His major work is the series "Thirty-six Views of Osaka," completed and published in 1947. Rinsaku Akamatsu also contributed to the series "Pictures of Famous Places in Osaka and Kobe."
