He launched his career as an etcher with a number of pastoral scenes beginning in 1918, following studies under William Paxton and Henri Royer. Through the 1920s, Hall produced a number of compelling works depicting notable American and European buildings and settings. He lived and worked in Boston and Gloucester, Massachusetts and was a member of numerous professional societies. His work is represented in the collections of many leading museums and institutions here and abroad.
