Georg Burmester was a German painter.
Georg Burmester was the son of the Realschule director Adolf Burmester and Charlotte Henriette Marie, née Ritter. From 1881 to 1883 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Heinrich Lauenstein (1835–1910) and Hugo Crola, and from 1883 to 1889 at the Karlsruhe Art Academy under Gustav Schönleber. In 1886 he made a study trip to Italy and did his military service in 1887/88.
From 1889 he lived in Kiel , where he met Ernst Eitner. From 1895 he was based in Möltenort. During this time he made a study trip to Norway and Copenhagen. In 1907/08 he received a scholarship from the Villa Romana in Florence. In the period 1912-1930 he was a teacher at the Academy of Art Kassel. After 1930, Burmester lived again in Möltenort, a district of Heikendorf near Kiel, and worked for a time in the Heikendorf artist colony .
Burmester was a founding member of the Schleswig-Holstein Art Cooperative in 1894 and later its chairman.
