Anselmo Guinea

Anselmo Guinea y Ugalde was a Spanish painter, watercolorist and muralist, with works in public buildings in Bilbao such as the Bidebarrieta library, the Foral Palace, the Chávarri Palace and as a stained glass painter in the Ibaigane Palace.

Born in Calle de Ripa in Bilbao, he began his education in Madrid, attending the workshop of Federico de Madrazo. Returning to his hometown in 1876, he opted for the chair of drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts, holding it until his death.

In 1890 he traveled in the company of Manuel Losada to Paris, attending classes at the Gerveix Academy, where he came into contact with the Impressionist movement that was taking hold in the French capital. In Rome he completed his training and, from there, he regularly presented works at the different National Exhibitions of Fine Arts.
