General William John Chamberlayne is described as soldier, traveller, painter and poet. A series of five drawings by Chamberlayne illustrating 'The Bard' by Thomas Gray is in the Victorian and Albert Museum, London; Chamberlayne himself penned a collection of poetry entitled 'The Enchanted Land' published in 1892.
