Emanuel Thomas Peter was an Austrian miniaturist.
Emanuel Peter was born in Krnov as the son of a cooper. In 1817 he was apprenticed as a stonemason in Krnov. From 1818 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He then worked abroad for several years. In 1830 he returned to Vienna and was one of Moritz Daffinger's students. Later he became famous as a miniature painter.

Today his works are in various public collections in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. However, most of the works are privately owned. His originals are mostly dated between 1828 and 1860. He often signed his works only in short form with E. Peter. He focused on portraits of women using watercolour and gouache techniques. Peter also often copied other masterpieces, which he then reproduced in miniature formats. These works were very popular in their time. In 1866-67 these copies, mostly painted in watercolour, were exhibited at the Kunstverein in Vienna.
