Jerzy Napieracz

Jerzy Napieracz was a Polish graphic artist and painter, long-time Chief Artist of the City of Krakow. Creator of posters, bookplates, graphics, paintings, drawings, and book illustrations.

He studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he graduated in 1954. He participated in numerous group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He had 64 individual exhibitions in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, and the USA. He was the creator of countless bookplates inspired by Krakow, which he created from 1960. He collaborated with Dziennik Polski, where he published occasional graphics from 1958. He also worked at the Krakow Cultural Center Pod Baranami. From 1972 to 1990, he was the Chief Artist of the City of Krakow.

He was awarded the “Honoris Gratia” medal (2010), the Gold Cross of Merit, the 30th Anniversary of People's Poland Medal, the 40th Anniversary of People's Poland Medal, the Distinguished Cultural Activist Badge, the Gold Badge of Honor “For Services to the Krakow Region” and the Gold Badge of Honor of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers.

He died at the age of 89. He was buried at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Krakow.
