Jean Alexandre Ferdinandus was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator of Belgian origin.
Born in Antwerp on March 2, 1850, the son of Marie Josèphe Schaumbourg and Alexandre Ferdinandus, he became a student of the painter Frédéric Lix in Paris, who introduced him to drawing and wood engraving.
He exhibited watercolors relating to the events of the Commune at the Paris Salon from 1872 onwards, living at 14 rue des Rosiers at the time, and became a member of the Salon des Artistes Français until 1888. His drawings were appreciated by book publishers and the press, including La Petite Presse and L'Univers illustré.
In poor health, he married Marie Zélie Dessaux on October 24, 1888, in Paris's 15th arrondissement and died two weeks later, on November 8, 1888, at 155 rue de Sèvres. He was the father of three children, who were recognized in his marriage certificate.
