Franz Sigrist is an Austrian painter and printmaker .
Trained by Paul Troger at the Academy of Vienna, Franz Sigrist developed a rococo style which also suggests a stay in Italy. His works are also influenced by the manners of Franz Anton Maulbertsch and Josef Ignaz Mildorfer. Established in Vienna, he stayed in Augsburg from 1754 to 1762 where he was court painter to the bishop. Member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences from 1754 he was appointed in 1755 professor of painting.

Sigrist is best known for his religiously inspired engravings and paintings. Also creator of the remarkable frescoes Franz Sigrist is known above all for the three impressive ceiling frescoes in the vestibule of the Zwiefalten cathedral in Baden-Württemberg (1758) and for his large ceiling fresco in the village hall at the University of Eger (Hungary) representing the four faculties already belonging to the first period of classicism (1781).
