Adolf Obermüllner

Adolf Obermüllner was an Austrian painter .

At the age of 18, Obermüllner came to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 1851 and became a student of the landscape painter Franz Steinfeld. On the occasion of a major academic exhibition, Obermüllner was not only able to make his debut, but his works were also awarded a 1st prize.

Subsequently, Obermüllner settled in Munich and was accepted by Richard Zimmermann in his studio. After three years, Obermüllner went on an extensive study trip through Italy, Holland and France. In 1860 he returned to Austria and settled in Vienna for the rest of his life.

In 1861 the Austrian Alpine Club engaged Obermüllner for an Alpine and glacier expedition. The main task of this excursion was measurements and a kind of inventory using photographs and drawings. Publications such as the album of the Kronprinz-Rudolfs-Bahn , Aus dem Bavarian high mountains , Aus Tirol and others. were the result of this trip.

The painter Adolf Obermüllner died in Vienna in 1898 at the age of 65.

In 1899 the Obermüllnerstraße in Vienna- Leopoldstadt (2nd district) was named after him.
