The United States Information Agency, which operated from 1953 to 1999 was a foreign affairs agency in the executive branch of the U.S. government. The agency was responsible for explaining and supporting U.S. foreign policy, interests, and values abroad through educational and cultural activities, diplomatic posts, exchange activities and international broadcasting.
