
Born in Valenciennes, the painter Alphonse Ernest Pecquereau was a pupil of Gustave Simonau and Jean-Baptiste van Moer. He was also influenced by Emile Claus, Henry Schaefels and Charles Verlat. Around 1880, he became a member of the Société Royale des Aquarellistes. Regular study trips took him to Germany and Luxembourg. His watercolors mainly depict landscapes and military scenes.
