He was educated in Vienna, studied flower painting at the Akademie der bildenden Künste and was also trained in weaving. In 1857, aged about 29, he was obliged to take over his father's linen-weaving factory. When this ran into financial difficulties he decided to resume a profession related to his main interest in painting and became an art dealer. Between 1873 and 1891 his art dealership,salon - "E.Hirschler & Comp." - was located at Plankengasse 7/Graben 14, Vienna-1. After his death this firm was continued by his sons Rudolf & Paul.
Eduard Hirschler pursued his skills and passion as an artist all his life, painting in oil & watercolour - mainly still-life compositions .
