Valentin Lefevre, born in Brussels in 1642, was already active in Venice by 1664 studying the works of Paolo Veronese in the church of San Giorgio Maggiore. His master piece was created between 1670 and 1673, Saint Maur in Glory made for the church of Santa Giustina in Padua, his other works include the Dream of Jacob for the stairwell of the Cloister of S. Giorgio Maggiore.
In 1680, Valentin Lefevre produced a large series of etchings for the Van Campen publication of The Works of Veronese and Titian, which was reprinted in 1682. He is then listed as being active in England between 1680 and 1682, which is often also his considered death date, but most recently scholars believe that Valentin Lefevre died in Venice in 1700.
Lefèvre made study-copies after the works of sixteenth-century Venetian painters, and especially those of Paulo Veronese and Tintoretto.
