Arthur Parton was an American painter.
Known for his landscapes, Arthur Parton studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with William Trost Richards. Parton first traveled to Europe in 1869. It was there that Parton’s work became influenced by the Barbizon painters. Parton was a member of the Hudson River School and exhibited extensively in the United States and Europe at prestigious institutions such as the National Academy of Design and the Boston Art Club. In 1884 Parton was chosen to be a National Academician after being made an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1871. He was also a member of the American Water Color Society.
