Oscar Parviainen

Oscar Andreas Parviainen was a Finnish painter and graphic artist. Parviainen often painted exotic subjects, which he was inspired by from his travels abroad. His paintings have strongly influenced by symbolism.

Parviainen studied for a time at the Finnish Art Association's drawing school, but his studies were interrupted in 1898. After that, Parviainen continued his studies in Copenhagen under Peder S. Kröyer, but again his studies were interrupted, mainly due to the fatigue of an elderly teacher. In 1900, Parviainen passed the entrance exams at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and began studying there. But again, Parviainen did not complete her studies, as she met Kristine Sievers, an American Norwegian, with whom he married in Iowa in 1901.

From 1903 to 1905, Parviainen studied graphics with Axel Tallberg as a private student in Stockholm, and in 1905 Parviainen held his first exhibition in Helsinki.
