Johann Ludwig von Pfeiff was an Engraver, painter, draughtsman and miniaturist. His father was a member of the court at Mainz, and had an important picture collection which inspired the son to take up art. According to Hüsgen pastel was among the numerous different media he employed; he worked also in various genres.
