
Adolf Karpellus, the son of a major in the Austro-Hungarian Army, was born in Galicia in 1869. After studying in Vienna and Paris he became a painter and poster designer. During the First World War Karpellus produced a large number of posters and postcards for the Central Powers. Karpellus died in Vienna in 1919.
