Sigmund Holbein was a German painter. Sigmund Holbein was the younger brother of Hans Holbein the Elder, In whose workshop he was active until about 1517. It is believed in him the so-called "Master of the (Nuremberg) Apostles mysteries", the creator of an altar from Holbein's workshop, from which were lost during the Second World War, most boards.
After the departure of his older brother from Augsburg he continued his workshop, but could not build on their earlier successes. He did not succeed with it, to emerge from the shadow of his brother's significance.
