Samuel G. Richards

American, 1853-1893
Follow

Samuel Richards was born in Indiana and trained in Munich, as did many Indiana artists of that period.

He was part of the original Hoosier School of artists, a group dedicated to creating American Impressionism, not confined to French dictates. However, he died before he could become very active with the group.
Earlier he became ill in Europe, and this illness was the reason he returned to the United States when he did and then went to Colorado.
