Salomon Hofling

Salomon Hofling, born July 18, 1779 in Halmstad, died January 18, 1827 in Stockholm, was a Swedish miniature and pastel painter.

He was the son of Carl Hofling, landskamreraren in Halmstad, and Hedvig Ulrica Printzler, married to Fredrica Eleonora Kugelberg and father of Carl Hofling. He studied art under Lorentz Svensson Sparrgren at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and participated in the Academy's exhibitions eight times between 1809 and 1826. He became a agré at the Academy in 1813. His art consists of portraits, genre pictures and landscapes with motifs from Stockholm's surroundings in oil or pastel. He painted in the manner of Lorentz Svensson Sparrgren, but without achieving his great popularity.
