Józef Hilary Głowacki was a Polish theater decorator, son of the theater decorator Antoni Głowacki (1750-1811).
Initially, he studied painting from 1806 under his father's tutelage. The following year he painted decorations for the theater in Minsk. In 1808 he began painting studies in Vilnius under the supervision of Jan Rustem.
Already during his studies, he designed and made decorations for the Vilnius theater. After graduating, he became a lecturer at the University of Vilnius. In 1818 he made a wall painting in the lower hall of the University. In the years 1821-1825 he worked at the university's lithographic department.
In 1826 he moved to Warsaw, where, commissioned by General Ludwik Michał Pac, he made a series of seven views of his property on the walls of the palace at Miodowa Street. Apart from designing theatrical decorations, he was also involved in easel painting and lithography.
He also designed sets for operas such as "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti, "The Italian Woman in Algiers " by Gioacchino Rossini and "Freelancer" by Carl Maria von Weber.
