Josef Langl was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and writer of Czech origin
He was born on March 18, 1843 to his single mother Magdalena Langlová in Dobřany. From 1855 he lived almost permanently in Vienna. In 1858 he began studying painting at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. From 1870 to 1892 he taught art education. He also became a specialist drawing inspector for Vienna and Lower Austria. He held this position until 1915. He created many paintings, including a panorama of Vienna and his native Dobřany. He was appointed an honorary citizen of the city of Vienna. He died on May 27, 1916 in Vienna.
