José Mongrell

José Mongrell was a Spanish painter, born in Valencia and died in Seville.

He studied with Ignacio Pinazo and Joaquín Sorolla, at the school of fine arts in his hometown. After his transfer to Barcelona is dedicated to the costumbrista painting, which highlights the bright colours and the brightness which paints the Levantine coasts, as well as the casticidad which prints to their human types. In 1901 he attended the national exhibition with pictures from my Studio, portrait of my father and portrait of the Lady Guadalupe Yerro. Three years later he participated in the national exhibition of fine arts which won the third Medal and in 1907 in Barcelona; a year later the Honorable mention was you. In 1911 the gold medal was awarded already.

From 1913 he was Professor of drawing at the school of Arts and crafts in Barcelona. In 1923 he exhibited at the circle of fine arts in Madrid. Between this city, Barcelona and Valencia is distributed the work of this prolific artist. Some of his most celebrated paintings are landscape (1887), winners of the Navas (1890), portrait, an Odalisque and Lady of century (1895) Musketeers playing chess (1896), a cacahuera selling your merchandise and a post of Porrat (1897), a musketeer in attitude of rina (1898).
