Johann Wachtl

Austrian, 1778-1839
Follow

Johann Wachtl was born in 1778. The Austrian painter attended the Vienna Academy, and the files recorded him as a miniaturist. His teacher was Heinrich Füger, for whom he probably worked as an assistant, and replicated his miniatures.

Later, he settled in Graz and became a respected and sought-after portraitist in the 1820's and 1830's.
