James Callowhill (1838 - 1917) is an American Artist known for marine, illustration, and porcelain decoration. Born in Worcester, England, James Callowhill studied at the Worcester School of Art and was in Brooklyn, New York by the late 1880s. From 1853 until he moved to New York, he was an artist with Worcester Royal Porcelain Works. In New York, he worked for the Faience Manufacturing Company at Greenport, Brooklyn. He also worked with porcelain in Baltimore and for Louis Prang in Boston doing watercolors for lithographs.
His son was painter and porcelain decorator James Clarence Callowhill.
