Born in Geneva Henri Levêque, such as Delerive, traveled around Europe after the French revolution in order to record the political and military consequences and revolutions that were happening in Europe, especially after Napoleon began his first campaigns.
Levêque's work depicts such realism in the battle field that it's not surprising to learn that some of the drawings were taken on site. He is best know for his watercolors and mainly the etchings that were published after the works were sent to England to report battles and relevant political events such as the departure of the Portuguese royal family to Brazil before the Napoleonic invasions.
