Gustaf Henrik Brusewitz, born October 3, 1812 in Gothenburg, died there June 16, 1899, was a Swedish painter, archaeologist and museum curator in Gothenburg. He was the son of the Gothenburg merchant Gustaf Brusewitz and his wife Maria Charlotta Busch, and the brother of Fredrik Brusewitz.
Brusewitz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm 1829-1836 and under the engraver Christian Didrik Forssell. He was a pupil at the French Academy in Rome in Villa Medici 1839-1840, studied in Paris 1842-1845 at Léon Cogniet's studio and at the Academy of Drawing in Switzerland.
He devoted himself to historical and religious painting, but was mainly active in ancient research and was curator of the historical department at the Gothenburg Museum from 1865 to 1891. He drew a large number of Bohuslän's ancient monuments and published several works on the region's ancient history and archaeology. He was married to Sofia Amalia Lindhé on July 21, 1850.
