Gerard van Nijmegen was a Dutch painter, draftsman and etcher. He worked in the style of Romanticism.

Van Nijmegen was the son of painter Dionys van Nijmegen, who also trained him. Initially he started as a decorative painter, but soon he focused on dramatic landscapes and forest views, in an early romantic style, with a lot of emphasis on atmosphere. Also characteristic are his imposing skies, inspired by seventeenth-century painters such as Jacob van Ruisdael. He often chose un-Dutch mountainous environments, with waterfalls and wild trees. He derived the inspiration for this from two trips along the Rhine, which he made with his wife Susanna Catharina Nijgh, who was also a painter. He also worked a lot in the Veluwe.

He died in 1808, aged 72
