Friedrich Wailand was a pupil of the famous F.G. Waldmueller at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He studied further in France and Italy. From 1859 Wailand lived permanently in Vienna where he exhibited at the Vienna "Kunstverein" (1855-1863) and at the Vienna Academy. Mainly a miniaturist, he also painted portraits in oil and watercolor.
